Mount Rinjani
Mount Rinjani is the highest mountain on Lombok and , outside Irian Jaya, about the highest in Indonesia. At 3726 meters it soars above the island and dominates the landscape, but by mid -morning on most days the summit is shrouded in cloud. The mountain is actually an active volcano-its last eruption was in 1901. There is a huge crater containing a large green crescent-shaped lake, segara anak, which is about six km across at its widest point. There is series of natural hot springs on on the north-eastern side of the caldera. These springs, known as Kokok Putih, are said to have remarkable healing power. The lake is 600 vertical meters below the caldera rim, and in the middle of its curve there is new cone, Gunung Baru (also known as Gunung Barujari).
Rinjani National Park
Mt. Rinjani forms the second highest volcanic peak in Indonesia, one of tourist destination in Lombok and also part of celebrated” Ring of Fire”. The dramatic landscape has been created over millions of years of cone-building, violent explosions and erosion. Forested slopes rising directly from the sea create their own weather pattern and act as water-collectors for the whole of Lombok. For the people of Lombok, Sasak and Balinese alike, the volcano is revered as a sacred place and abode of deities. Segara Anak is the destination of thousands of pilgrims who place offering in the water and bathe away disease in the hot springs. The endemic duck belibis is found here and several species of fish are recorded. Mt. Rinjani, one of the over 40 National Parks throughout Indonesia, was established in 1997.
Senaru
The village of Senaru is main gateway to Mt. Rinjani stretches up a hillside spur along a winding road above Bayan. It is a scenic 2.5 hours drive from Senggigi to Senate. Sembalun Lawang
Sembalun Lawang is set in an ancient and fertile caldera to the east of Mt. Rinjani, the preferred access route for summiteers. The rich soil produces high quality market garden crops, Including the famous garlic and rice, staple of local farmers. Seismic activity is monitored daily at the government Rinjani Volcanology Center. The beautiful valley of Sembalun is also known for its hill walks, recently restored traditional village, active culture performers and local weavers.
Rinjani Trek Center
The Rinjani Trek Center is located at the top of village at the trailhead. It offers information for the visitor of Mt. Rinjani. National Park and village entry fees are paid here.
Waterfall
Senaru is best known attraction is the Sendang Gila waterfall which attracts many thousands of Indonesian and foreign visitors annually. Located at about 600 meter above sea level, the waterfall is an easy 20 minute walk down a graded trail and steps from Senaru village. A pleasant alternative return route wind along the edge of the steep valley, following the immigration canal. Trek up from Sendang Gila waterfall you will find the second waterfall” Tiu Kelep waterfall”.
Wildlife
